MOLINETTO DELLA CRODA (17th century)

The Molinetto della Croda, an ancient mill in the Lierza valley, is one of the most picturesque spots of the Marca Trevigiana.
In nearly four centuries of history it has inspired several artists and charmed thousands of visitors.
The Molinetto is a typical example of 17th century rural architecture.
It was built in various successive stages. The original foundations lay on the bare rock of the mountain, the “croda”, hence the name of Molinetto della Croda. Later additions made it possible to lodge the miller family. Their life was a continuous fight against poverty and against the threat of sudden floods like those recent of 1941 and 1953.
This old mill is a symbol of that local rural life which is today disappearing because of the industrial development of the area. The mill stopped working in 1953. It was then abandoned for several years and has been recently restored with great care and attention so as to bring back its original features.
Today, on the ground floor of the building, the accurate re-make of the millstone has finally revived the mill again. This symbol of local culture and history was purchased in 1991 by the Council of Refrontolo and is now open to the public. School and tourist groups are always welcome.

INFORMATION for GUIDED TOURS to the MOLINETTO DELLA CRODA of GROUPS and SCHOOLS.

The groups are received by a special guide, who outlines a brief history.
After that, it follows a showing of the mill that grinds the flour of maize, as it has been done for centuries. This is particularly important and impressive, taking also into consideration that the water mills, which still work, are rare.
Later on,visitors have the opportunity to visit the inner rooms of the building, with exhibitions scheduled for each period of the year.
There is also the possibility to have a short walk above the falls or, if interested, to have longer routes.
The entrance fee is, including the presentation of the guide, of € 2.00 per person.
For groups and schools we apply a discount.
Length of the visit : 30/60 minutes.
Reservations are required, even by telephone, indicating the date, time of arrival and, approximately, the number of the persons who will take part in.
